How the Euromedia Ownership Monitor uses the Beneficial Ownership Data Standard
Who owns and controls the news media across the European Union?
That is the question answered by the 2025 edition of the Euromedia Ownership Monitor which was launched today in Brussels.
The project allows you to search, visualise, analyse and download data on hundreds of the most influential news producing organisations from every EU member state and thousands of the people who own or control the media, thanks to the hard work of Euromedia Ownership Monitor research consortium with data collected following the Beneficial Ownership Data Standard (BODS).
This was made possible thanks to the researchers’ use of the BODS data generator, an open-source tool created by Open Ownership and Open Data Services:
After searching for any media entity or beneficial owner, you can visualise ownership structures, click on ‘Full graph’ to learn more and adjust the interest types or shareholding filters to drill down. You can also download the resulting data in BODS format as an xlsx file.
